What you need to know about Cosmetic Tattooing:

ABOUT COSMETIC TATTOOING

Cosmetic tattooing is a semi-permanent style of tattooing, using either a machine or hand tool to implant pigment into the dermis layer of the skin. Most cosmetic tattooing treatments take 1-2 weeks to heal properly.  We use semi-permanent pigment to prevent pigment migration.

PRE-TREATMENT PREPARATION

It is best to have your eyebrows natural and unplucked for your first procedure to allow me to see where your natural hair grows, if any at all. With lips and eyeliner there is no post treatment prep just walk in with you and your beautiful face.

AFTER CARE

After your procedure you need to keep the tattooed area dry for 3 days (some clients like to come in with freshly washed hair so they don’t have to afterwards). Keep all products off the area for 1 week. It is normal for the area to flake whilst healing, if so use a small smear of Bepanthen on the area to help heal. Please note over soaking with Bepanthen can result in pigment loss. If you are having your eyeliner or lips tattooed they may swell after treatment, this should subside within 24 hours. A cool pack may help to relieve heat.

PRE-EXISTING COSMETIC TATTOO & MEDICAL TATTOOING

If you have previously had cosmetic tattooing in the area you are wanting touched up, I will have to assess this in a consultation prior to treatment as to what will best suit you.

All medical tattooing and Areola tattooing requires a consultation prior to procedure to assess the best possible outcome and to give you a quote for your treatment.

ON THE DAY

On the day of your procedure, I will have a chat with you about cosmetic tattooing and assess what your needs are. I will look at your skin tones, colourings and facial features. Then we will do a makeup simulation to give you a clear idea of how the cosmetic tattooing will look on you. After you are 100% happy with shape and thickness, I will numb the area with a topical cream and proceed to tattoo the area once you are nice and numb.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Unfortunately, I am unable to treat clients who have the following:

breast feeding and/or breast feeding

Cold sore – for lip tattooing only

FAQ COSMETIC/EYEBROW TATTOOING GOLD COAST, TOWNSVILLE & MELBOURNE

HOW LONG WILL MY EYEBROWS LAST?

All eyebrow tattooing should last between 12-18 months, although there are no guarantees as everybody metabolises the pigment differently. Generally, the darker the pigment the longer the colour will hold in the skin. There are a few factors that can also effect the pigment holding such as, how oily your skin is and external factors like sun damage and the peroxide in eyebrow tint.

WHY IS IT ONLY SEMI PERMANENT PIGMENT?

The cosmetic tattooing industry uses semi-permanent pigment in the skin, and there is good reason for this! Permanent inks used in body art tattoos have a smaller molecule size (compared to semi-permanent pigment which has a larger molecule size) which allows the body to shuffle the pigment around in the skin causing tattoos to look blurry and pigment to migrate in the skin after a few years. This is not ideal when the tattoo is on your eyebrows, lips and/or eyeliner. It is much safer and looks a lot better if you have your cosmetic tattooing touched up every 12 months.

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT COLOUR WILL SUIT MY BROWS?

I have been trained to assess skin tones, colourings and facial features and shapes. I use my knowledge of colour tones with my semi-permanent pigments to mix a colour best suited to you. With eyebrows it always looks more natural to get as close to your eyebrows hairs as possible if this is an option.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?

On the day, the procedure usually takes 1.5 hours as I am an absolute perfectionist. The first half hour is usually you and I assessing your likes and what you want as an outcome (a lot of people have no idea and this is fine as it’s what I am there for). I will then do a full make up simulation on your face to show you the outcome and how the tattoo is likely to look. The next half hour I will apply a topical lidocaine cream on your brows for 30 minutes to make sure you are nice and numb. Then after an easy test prick to ensure you are numb I will start applying the tattooing.

HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED TO COME BACK FOR A TOUCH UP?

My normal rule of thumb is to have a touch up every 12 months or just before the pigment has faded completely so we can go over the original shape.

WILL IT HURT?

I use a high grade topical anaesthetic which completely numbs the area. If you feel any pain at all, l will stop and apply more anaesthetic as I try to make every procedure as painless as possible. After the procedure, eyeliner and eyebrows are painless when the anaesthetic wears off. Although lips can throb and may require a cool pack to relieve heat.

WILL THEY LOOK SCARY WHEN THEY ARE FIRST DONE?

No, Eyebrows always look amazing immediately after. All of my photos on Facebook and Instagram are immediately after if that gives you some idea of the redness and swelling or lack thereof. Lip tattooing always swells and does looks a little intense for the first week and eyeliner tends not to swell as much but the eyeliner will be twice as dark whilst healing.

CAN I EXERCISE IMMEDIATELY AFTER?

Be careful of your new tattoo as the skin is open it is best not to sweat too much or get them wet at all for the first three days. After that it is fine. Light exercising is fine.

CAN YOU COVER EXISTING TATTOO IN THE SKIN?

Yes, I can. A consultation will have to take place prior to the procedure as I will have to assess what the previous pigment is under the skin and how it will affect my pigment. I can almost always improve any cosmetic tattooing you aren’t happy with.

WILL THE PIGMENT TURN BLUE OR GREEN?

I use a brand of pigments manufactured in Germany called Ameai. They are an incredible pigment that are not based on a blue or green base at all. They tend to hold their colour. On occasion some of the warmer colours fade back to a slightly warmer pigment but nothing dramatic.
